Time for Change and Move On. Make Way for Progression

I was recently walking through the streets in Manchester UK, when I saw a large building being demolished.

It was like a scene from the Avengers movie with a huge hole in a once sturdy building.

I thought why on Earth would they destroy something that has so much history and character? The problem with the demolition is what comes next and it will be a metal and glass cube for sure. And to that I would say, where is the progression?

It’s hard to let go of some things that is true. I’m very sentimental to the old buildings and having feelings and emotions towards the past to purposely destroy to create something new is a little counterproductive for me.

Buildings that are old, and yes, it maybe was in a bad way, I do not know the real reason, but to trash something that has been there for so long should be renovated first before demolition, full stop.

When you have something like that should we just give up or should we try to preserve?

I would try first before I gave up as I’ve I love my history as during my travelling around the world I would seek out the cultural and historical buildings first. And so now I am losing the city that I grew up in.

So Far so Good

img_20170207_135009img_20170207_134957I am now into my second week at my new  job. I have to say the place is nice. The other teachers and workers are lovely to be with. It’s a work in progress with it being a new building. We spend a fair majority interviewing new students.

So far my previous material from teaching ESL in Korea is going to be gold here.

Hopefully this keeps going nicely.

Simple Tips to Be Prepared and Deal with the Future

I want to ask you, what really matters in life?

The reason I ask is because these days many people seem distracted and their focus in life is misguided.

The world is very materialistic and I for one have grown up in a house where there are many ornaments on shelves and in cabinets. My parents had a house that was very traditional in style. The world has changed now as the house I grew up in and the house I am now living in look nothing like each other. This is not being rebellious but more of a personal expression and a role of I see of practicality.

I did not hate the house I grew up in as it was nice, but the environment to me did not seem at all practical and more of a trophy collection. Right now for me the space I want is to be very useful. This does not mean there is no room for sentimentality, just not as a museum.

Just a thought…

When things are of more practical value, does that make them any less  in touch with what is correct in life? To be in touch with a successful way of life and have positivity does not need to be materialistic. I find it quite invigorating that my kids can come home with friends and they know where things are due to the less crazy atmosphere. It means they are in command of the space as well as me.

Be a teacher

What I’m trying to get at here is that technically we are all teachers to some degree to our friends and family around us and so they should see you in a good light. Now, if you can then address the common day problems in life that occur and you look to be successful then that’s the moment you become the teacher to others.

Being in touch with life in the eyes of others could also be attached to your health. If you look at friends and family and see that they are healthy, wouldn’t that then want to make you to follow their style? We can try to be healthy, but things happen that can affect our days. We always have good intentions, but to follow through and make those intentions stick can be a lot harder.

In Conclusion

So as we’ve addressed to have good health and to have a good home that you share with friends and family makes a good life, but does that mean that we are in touch? I would like to think so but the problems that we face every day can change that environment for us. There are many things that affect our day and that has to be acceptable as those are natural. Things happen that we cannot be ready for, but we have to be ready that our day may change.

Moving to another country? Here is what to take.

What if you could move house or move to another country without all the things that you have?

This is something that I plan to do as I am currently working in South Korea and I’ve been here for 8 years, but now it’s time to go back to the UK.

Take a look around your house at all the different things you have and can you ask yourself how much of that is essential?

Most of us would not like to lose those things as we have bought them or they may have sentimentality such as presents, so it’s hard to lose everything. After removing the personal things for the journey to the new house, it’s time to look at the rest. Do they serve a practical purpose or could they be useful in another country? The chances are some of it will be yes, but when you look at something that could be getting old or maybe doesn’t serve much of a purpose anymore this has a perfect chance of being left behind.

It’s almost like a new life to be able to walk away from everything you’ve done and take with you the best things. So again, could you do that and walk away with the essential and practical things from your house and move to another country?

As I’ve said I intend to do this soon and so far my kitchen space has become a recycle center where there are many pieces from myself my wife and the children seemingly Surplus to requirements . The rest of the house so far has the essentials in there at least for command a living but then to move to another country they don’t seem to still be an essential item. For example if you move to another country you probably wouldn’t take most of the technology with you as that would seem maybe a little kind Impractical in costs.

The interesting thing is my wife agrees with me which to appoint kind of shocks me as she is pretty easily to label as a hoarder and to basically walk away from many of the items that are in here and move to a new house in the UK is kind of shocking from her. It makes this situation so much easier if both of you agree on the new Fresh Start is it were.

I think to a point if you can turn some of the stuff that you have that’s not going with you if you can turn it into a kind of a small profit to help with transition and to help with initial setup would be really advantageous. Another thing as well would be to help the people around you including neighbors and family. In our house we have many books and it would be a shame that they don’t go to a good home. I would personally like them to go to family as being in sales career the chances are that they’re not going to have access to as many English books as I have here and it can help with their children’s education. To be able to do that and help others around you feels really helpful and leaving a nice goodbye present to them.

So I put it to you on how could you do that and to think about when moving house what parts are removing just for moving and really shouldn’t be moving as such?

When we move house that may be just a few miles or kilometers we would tend to move everything we have with not much question now should we or should we not take it. Not really if something is broken then it shouts at you that it’s not really going to fit in well in the new house. But for many things that you have they would go with you as the whole situation of moving alone is as stressful situation to deal with.

This is the second time I’ve moved in 2 years as the last time I moved we only moved about 400 meters. Our previous house was rented and So eventually we were able to buy our own house and the situation of all that happened. I tried to question and stop things going to a new house and to a degree yes that did happen but again on top of that there were some things that felt like it breaking away from a fresh start and more a case of just moving from one box to another. This time is a lot different AZ the truly cannot be any excuse for anything you have to go with you it has to have either real sentimentality connected to it or serves a truly Practical purpose.

How to Check if Your Career is Out of Order

So, How tasty is your block of cheese?

Not sure what I’m talking about, then read on.

A long time ago there was a boss I had that used a saying called ‘don’t be attracted by the block of cheese’. At the time this was quite strange as we were unaware of the reason why he was saying it, so it was seemingly quite funny to us to use this saying for it was not rightly explained. So, looking back on it now it does actually make sense because you can get suckered into something that doesn’t kind of help in the long-term of your career. We worked in a place that was fairly easy to work and not that demanding. I would say that what we did didn’t prepare much for our futures.

After a while I got the whole story and it was a situation between 2 mice. The 2 mice had coincidentally a block of cheese. One mouse would stay there with it and never leave and eat only the cheese. He would never go and get more food much to the concern of his friend. The second mouse would go out and get food from other places. Eventually, the block of cheese did run out and the first mouse then was in a bit of trouble.

The reason for the saying from our boss was obviously coming from too much time with his own block of cheese.

Recently this has raised its head with my long-term future and am I working to make it better? Now it’s looking that I will go back to my country after working 8 years in South Korea as an ESL teacher. To a point I have taught kids but the material has been purely to help teach English as a secondary language. My concern with that is it is firstly not grammar orientated and secondly not UK curriculum orientated.

A Final Thought!

So, the question I have for you is are you in a similar situation with an ever decreasing block of cheese? Or have you branched out and have many sources?

Day 1 for the future. A New Year and a New Job

It’s been a mixed couple of months really. It’s a case of having a lot of spare time around my job as an ESL teacher. The question I keep asking is, what comes next? And the reason is that it’s not forever. The past few months have been filled with tasks including software development, writing and completing books.

To answer the question we need to first work out what you are good at. This can be many things as most people never stick to just one thing and are more than capable of having many skills.
I am refraining here from using the word ‘hobby’ as I don’t see it as job material. The reason I say this, is because I love to be creative and as above I said I like to develop software. Now I had that as a job as well and was stressful and didn’t compare to what I was doing for fun. Don’t get me wrong as many people have hobbies as jobs, but in general what you like to do will not be the same as a hobby.

Let’s reword that question to, What can you do that you wouldn’t mind doing if you had a hard time at work doing it? A way to imagine that is to think of a job where a couple of people aren’t that helpful, ways and methods aren’t the way you prefer and you may have impossible deadlines.

If it’s still hard to answer then think about friends and family. Again you could ask, What ability do others see you as having? I don’t mean that because you’re the tech person of the family, or they say your photos are always great, but what can people come to you for personally?

The image here is from South Africa with some superb safaris.  You can watch this live with an app of mine:  Safari Live Chat

As well as thinking about what you like, you might also need to look at your skill level.  Right now I am teaching ESL but to compare that to elementary school and above, it doesn’t really compare.

Are you closer to an answer? I think for me, my skills are very mixed and not amazing in one area. I want to help people, possibly on a personal level but groups would be okay. It’s hard to make a call but I don’t think I would go back into tech. The jury is still out for me.

I hope your next position is easier to work out. Let me know how you are doing.
